DONATE BOOKS

Instead of throwing away or giving your gently used books to a thrift store, please consider donating them to Friends of the Library, Inc.  There are two advantages to doing so:

  • The value of the books given is deductible on your income taxes. We will give you a receipt for any donation that can be used to document the deduction.
  • The proceeds of the sale of your books will be used for a good purpose; to support the Macon-Bibb County Library system in the ways already mentioned.

Unfortunately, we do not have the ability to pick up donations from your home or business.  All donations must be made at our bookstore, 5494 Forsyth Road, Macon GA 31210, when the bookstore is open, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays 10am-2pm, and Wednesdays and Fridays 2pm-6pm.

After making a donation, please feel free to check out our bookstore.  We have thousands of hardcover and paperback books of all kinds for sale at very reasonable prices; $4 for all hardcover and $2 for all paperback books, unless otherwise marked.  All Members of our organization get a $1 discount on all hardcover books, in addition to other benefits.

If you are wondering what makes a book gently used, it is a book that is in good to like-new condition. Please do not drop off books that are:

  • water or insect damaged
  • moldy
  • yellowed
  • written in
  • excessively underlined
  • falling apart

Older books are welcome, too, based on acceptable condition for their age. We do not accept magazines, encyclopedias, condensed books, VCR or cassette tapes, but CDs, DVDs, and audiobooks are welcome.

Middle Georgia Regional Library branches in Macon-Bibb County also accept book donations for Friends of the Library. If you bring them to a branch library, please box or bag and label them as donations for Friends of the Library.

MEMORIAL BOOK PROGRAM

The Friends of the Library have a Memorial Book Program that gives you the opportunity to remember or honor friends and family. Please send donations in honor, or in memory, of your friends and loved ones. A bookplate with the name of the person being remembered will be placed inside a new hardcover book, along with the name of the donor, with the book being given to a library branch for use.  There is a $50.00 minimum donation for a memorial book.

To make a Memorial Book Program donation, please download, print, and return our form. You may download it here.
